Only For Today

In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

When Our Lord taught us the Our Father, He told us to pray in these very words: “Give us this day our daily bread.” (Matt.6:11)

This is significant! We do not ask for tomorrow, next week, or even for next year.   No, only for today. Remember that in the desert, only a day’s supply of manna could be picked up.

“Give us THIS DAY” means complete dependence on God our Father. It means agreeing to come each day to ask again. It signifies utter trust and confidence. It means placing ourselves completely in God’s hands.

It means accepting and rejoicing over the fact that our life depends on God.

That’s what we mean when we say “Our Father.”
